1. Cartridge Filters – When compared to sand filters, their surface area is large, this allows for fewer clogs and easy maintenance. They use less pressure than sand and this puts minimum back pressure on the pump allowing more flow. They are very friendly to the environment since they are cleaned only once in a season. Cleaning is done by simply hosing the cartridge element off, back washing is not necessary. Cartridge element captures debris as small as 10 to 15 microns. All in all, they are definitely the greenest filters we have around since they are not back washed and they take long to be cleaned. However, this product is made of plastic and therefore not biodegradable.
2. Sand Filters – Here sand is used to extract debris, debris as small as 20 to 40 microns are attracted. They are cleaned by back washing therefore wasting a lot of treated water while cleaning. This may create a great amount of environmental issues if the water is heavily chlorinated. However, it is made of very few internal parts and most of them are biodegradable hence no issues with disposal.
3. Diatomaceous Earth ( D.E.) – The product is mined, then used to coat grids in the filter housing that in return act as small sieves that remove debris as tinny as 2- 5 microns. They are eco friendly in the sense that they requires less pump run time and since they can tap even the finest debris less water treatment is required.
Advantages of Hayward Large Filters
• Hayward large D.E. filters need to be back washed fewer times thus saving reasonable amount of water and massively reducing D.E. power discharge.
• Since Hayward large filters are back washed less often, water is saved and less D.E. powder is discharged.
• These filters run at very lower pressure with very high flow, thus recording a higher turnover rate.
• Hayward large pool filters are known to prevent poor water conditions that call for more sanitizing pool chemicals.
• Large Hayward filters allows for use of small, energy saving pool pump.
